Director: Karan Malhotra
Story: Based on Agneepath (1990)
Screenplay: Ila Dutta Bedi and Karan Malhotra
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, and Rishi Kapoor
If you are going to watch the movie keeping in mind the original Agneepath, then you are in for a big time disappointment! Agneepath failed to match my average expectations even though I had decided not to watch as a remake of the original classic.
There isn’t much to talk about the story so let’s talk about the actors. Hrithik has done a decent job, however, he completely fails to do justice to the classic Harivansh Rai Bachchan poem. So much so that sometimes, it is not even audible. Sanjay Dutt’s character had so much scope that was left unexplored. The verses from the Mahabharata make him look funny and his laughter seems unreal. Priyanka Chopra comes in as a fresh breeze in the otherwise violent storm, if I may call it so. However, the only one person who makes an impression is Rishi Kapoor, in his maiden appearance as a villain.
Too many and out of context songs are only a speed breaker for the movie. You could be humming a few lines from the songs Shree Ganesha and Chikni Chameli but nothing more. The otherwise so impressive Ajay-Atul duo failed to leave their mark in this one.
Though the original Agneepath was a box office disaster, it is still considered to be a classic movie. Whereas, the new Agneepath, even after being a below average movie in all aspects, is already making record breaking collections at the box office.
