Agneepath – All Smoke, No Fire!

Movie: Agneepath

Director: Karan Malhotra

Story: Based on Agneepath (1990)

Screenplay: Ila Dutta Bedi and Karan Malhotra

Music: Ajay-Atul

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, and Rishi Kapoor

If you are going to watch the movie keeping in mind the original Agneepath, then you are in for a big time disappointment! Agneepath failed to match my average expectations even though I had decided not to watch as a remake of the original classic.

There isn’t much to talk about the story so let’s talk about the actors. Hrithik has done a decent job, however, he completely fails to do justice to the classic Harivansh Rai Bachchan poem. So much so that sometimes, it is not even audible. Sanjay Dutt’s character had so much scope that was left unexplored. The verses from the Mahabharata make him look funny and his laughter seems unreal.  Priyanka Chopra comes in as a fresh breeze in the otherwise violent storm, if I may call it so. However, the only one person who makes an impression is Rishi Kapoor, in his maiden appearance as a villain.

Too many and out of context songs are only a speed breaker for the movie. You could be humming a few lines from the songs Shree Ganesha and Chikni Chameli but nothing more. The otherwise so impressive Ajay-Atul duo failed to leave their  mark in this one.

Though the original Agneepath was a box office disaster, it is still considered to be a classic movie. Whereas, the new Agneepath, even after being a below average movie in all aspects, is already making record breaking collections at the box office.

The Descendants – A Soulful Journey to Hawaii!

Movie: The Descendants

Director: Alexander Payne

Story: Based on the novel, The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings

Screenplay: Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, and Jim Rash

Music: Gabby Pahinui, Ray Kane, Keola Beamer, Lena Machado, Sonny Chillingworth, Jeff Peterson, and Rev. Dennis Kamakahi

Cast: George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Amara Miller, and Nick Krause

The movie is about a man (George Clooney) whose wife has met with an accident and she is in a comma. However, that’s not the only thing he has to deal with. He is also entrusted with the responsibility of deciding the fate of his cousins either by selling or keeping a 25000 acres piece of land. The two stories are nicely woven into each other.

George Clooney and all others actors have done a superb job! Nick Krause has also played a memorable role. The beautiful visuals, a subtle spice of comedy, and the soulful music keep the movie miles away from being called a tragedy.

I’d suggest you to take this trip to Hawaii that will make you feel relaxed and will put your mind at peace, in the otherwise hectic life.

P.S.: All my Indian friends, do look out for the Kantilal Godbole scene.

Music: Abhijit Kavthalkar

Misal Pav at Balgandharva Ahaar Cafeteria

As mentioned in my earlier post, फडतरे मिसळ सेंटर, कोल्हापूर – जमलं न्हाय राव!, Misal Pav is my favorite breakfast item and Balgandharva Ahaar Cafeteria is one of my preferred places to enjoy it. The Balgandharva Ahaar Cafeteria is located behind the Balgandharva Theatre and is open to all, not just the theatre audience.

Well, if you are looking for a luxurious ambience, this is certainly not the place. However, I like the place because it is so open. It’s amazing how quiet the place is even after being so close to the J.M. Road.

I place an order for a misal pav and within a few minutes, the dish is here. As soon as the waiter places the dish on the table, I ask him for extra onion & lemon, no matter how much is already on the plate :-) And yes, an extra pair of bread please.

Doesn’t it look tempting? There goes the first bite in the mouth and it gives the same pleasure every time! I enjoy the Misal Pav along with all the extras that I has asked for and follow it up with a cup of tea.

I would love to spend another hour here. However, I noticed a ‘puneri paati’ hung right in front of me asking me to leave.

The waiter brings the bill and the total cost is Rs. 43/-

Misal Pav: Rs. 30

Extra Pav: Rs. 6

Tea: Rs. 10

The Misal Pav here is a must try for all Misal and spicy food lovers. I’m sure there would be other places in Pune serving equally good or even better Misal. Let me know if you know of any. I’ll be happy to try it.
